Phase

Phase

A spectral curve that lights up the urban space.
Permanent architectural light sculpture

Phase is a permanent, site-specific light installation designed by 1024 architecture, located beneath the overhang of a contemporary building on Avenue de France in Paris’s 12th arrondissement. Functioning like a modern urban marquee, this luminous intervention enhances the identity and visibility of the building’s main entrance while seamlessly integrating with the city’s architectural rhythm.

Composed of 64 finely calibrated LED light bars, Phase shifts between warm and cool white tones, echoing the chromatic subtleties of the Parisian nightscape. This dynamic light sculpture doesn’t just illuminate—it animates. Its gentle oscillations create a temporal rhythm, transforming a transitional threshold into a living interface between public space and private structure.

By linking architecture, light, and movement, Phase exemplifies how urban lighting design can become a medium for poetic expression. More than just a decorative feature, the installation acts as a spatial connector—elevating the site’s atmosphere, guiding passersby, and reinforcing the value of light as an architectural material in the design of modern cities.
