Playground

A joystick-driven virtual exhibition
Video game

Playground is a virtual art environment developed by 1024 architecture for their 2023 solo exhibition at Tropismes in Montpellier. Conceived as a digital extension of the studio’s physical work, Playground offers an interactive exploration of the studio’s aesthetic and conceptual universe—where architecture, light, and code converge.

Structured as a multi-level virtual landscape, each level corresponds to the world of a specific 1024 artwork, reinterpreted and adapted for an immersive video game experience. The installations—now reimagined in real-time 3D—highlight the possibilities of digital space as a medium for artistic expression.

Equipped with a joystick, the user navigates an avatar through abstract architectures and luminous compositions in pixelated form. The result is an experimental art-game hybrid where the boundaries between interactive installation, generative art, and gamified experience dissolve.

Playground expands the reach of digital art into new formats, inviting audiences to engage with 1024 architecture’s work in a playful, exploratory, and entirely virtual way. It underscores the studio’s ongoing interest in bridging physical space and virtual environments, offering a new lens through which to experience the languages of light, geometry, and digital design.
